Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior representative stated the vandalism made him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
